What To Know Before Seeking An Abortion

If you’re in the Harrisburg area and considering getting an abortion, it’s a big decision. Make an appointment to meet with one of our counselors to discuss the abortion methods available to you and get answers to the questions you may have about pregnancy and abortion.
  • Am I really pregnant?
  • What stage am I in my pregnancy?
  • Am I at risk for an STD?
  • What abortion method will be used?
  • What happens after an abortion?
  • Are there other options available to me?
  • What if I’ve already had an abortion?
  • No One Can Decide For You

Forced abortion is against the law.

When faced with an unplanned pregnancy everyone wants to give their opinion about what you should do. But it’s YOUR decision, and no one can decide for you. Make an appointment with Morning Star to receive the guidance and support you need to make an informed decision. No one can force you to have an abortion, even if you are a minor.

    Be Sure You're Really Pregnant

Before getting any type of abortion, you first need to confirm that you’re actually pregnant. Even if you have pregnancy symptoms or have taken a home test you may want help confirming your pregnancy. Morning Star provides free pregnancy tests that are 99% accurate. If your test is positive you may qualify for a free ultrasound to determine the status of your pregnancy.

    Ultrasound Before Abortion

An ultrasound is an important next step if you’re considering abortion as a solution to an unplanned pregnancy. An ultrasound will tell you for sure how many weeks pregnant you are, which determines the types of abortion procedures available to you. An ultrasound will also tell you if the pregnancy is in utero (in the uterus) or ectopic (outside the womb), which can be life-threatening. Make an appointment for a free pregnancy test to determine if you qualify for a free ultrasound.

    STDs And Abortion

Before getting any type of abortion, you should be tested for STDs. Many women with STDs are asymptomatic and don’t realize they are infected. But women who undergo an abortion with an untreated STD are up to 25% more likely to develop PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) following the abortion procedure. PID can lead to serious consequences including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, abscess formation and chronic pelvic pain. Make an appointment at Morning Star for free STD testing.

How Much Do You Know About Abortion Procedures?

Different abortion methods are used at different stages of pregnancy. You deserve to know the facts and be fully informed about abortion procedures and abortion risk factors. Morning Star takes time to educate you on your abortion options and what you can expect from each abortion procedure. Make an appointment today to meet with one of our counselors before making the trip to an abortion clinic in Pennsylvania.

    Abortion Pill (Medical Abortion)

Medical or non-surgical abortion uses RU486 or other types of chemicals to terminate your pregnancy. This method of abortion is used for women who are within 30 – 49 days of their last menstrual period and involves 3 different office visits. Make an appointment to learn more about medical abortion in Harrisburg.

Our staff receive calls from some clients who have taken the abortion pill after visiting a Harrisburg abortion clinic but now regret their decision. It may not be too late! If you have taken mifepristone (also known as RU486 or the “abortion pill”) and now you wish you could reverse the effects of the abortion pill call (877) 558-0333 now to talk with a nurse. Don't wait - The Abortion Pill Reversal hotline is staffed 24/hours a day.

    Surgical Abortion

If you’re not a candidate for a medical abortion or if the medical abortion fails, a surgical abortion would be necessary. Some of the most common surgical abortion procedures include manual vacuum aspiration, dilation and curettage, and dilation and evacuation. Make an appointment to learn more about surgical abortion.

    Morning After Pill

The Morning After Pill (also known as Plan B, Plan B One Step or Ella) is not the same as the abortion pill. The Morning After Pill is emergency contraception that is intended to be taken as soon as possible within the first 72 hours after having unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. The Morning After Pill works by delaying ovulation, interfering with fertilization and/or preventing implantation. If conception has already occurred, the Morning After Pill may cause an early abortion. There are side effects of taking these drugs and it doesn’t always prevent pregnancy.
